The Reality of Society

When I initially first read this I felt a strong resonance with this. Instantly the time when a man I dated and I got arrested came to mind. We were approached by the officer and the first thing out his mouth was "Y'all want to get arrested tonight?"  We immediately exclaimed "NO!"  Yet with his power, he told us to sit on the curb and proceeded to cuff us.  We were not told what we were being arrested for. He called for back-up as we were sitting on the curb cuffed.  We were taken to the station, booked and given the option to use a phone that did not work. Hours later we were released on bail yet when the went to court the following week, the case was instantly dismissed. Where is my equality? Where are my rights? Why are cops trigger happy? Why do officers believe that their life is more valuable than that of a person of color or with a different way of life than they are accustomed too? And for the record, no-blue lives do not m...

Bernie Sanders vs Donald Trump Persuasive Speech

Every four years something monumental happens in our country.  I am not referring to leap year, I am talking about voting for a president of the United States.  As first year students in college we are now able to vote for the next person to run this country!  Recently in my philosophy class, my professor asked who everyone was thinking about voting for, and I was shocked to find out that over half of the class said they would not be voting.  Us college students are some of the most important people in this nation currently.  We have the opportunity to become the next generation of doctors, lawyers, teachers, or even engineers.  That is another reason why it is so important that we vote this coming November.  As we are becoming the next generation we need to pay attention to the candidates and their views because one of them will be elected to be the 45 th president of the United States.  I know some of you might feel lik...

I just finished reading a philosophy essay for the next section we are going to cover in class.  It is the philosophy of God.  Now as soon as I found out that we would be discussing God, I was not thrilled.  Based off my past experiences coming from a perspective of having no religious affiliation discussing God with people of a strong faith has never been fun.  For starters they always look down upon people who do not believe. Two they usually try to persuade and convince you.  And third they press their beliefs on you.  A main thing I view wrong with people of a strong faith is how judgmental they are.  I have never read the Bible but I am sure it says something along the lines of "love everyone".  So when I see "devote Christians" at gay pride holding signs saying "God hates you" or "God hates fags" I am disgusted.  Your religion and your beliefs does not make you superior to everyone else. As I mentioned in my last...

I am very happy with all the rain we have received this week because California needs it.  We have been in a severe drought for quite sometime now.  People think that one little storm like the one we are in the midst of right now will change the status of California's drought drastically but it won't.  Yes it does help but we still have so much more that we need, one storm really does not make that much of a dent.  I also do not understand people who do not believe that climate change is a real issue or that it is something that should be taken seriously.  If you watch a video of Earth through the years to now, it is obvious.  We are destroying this planet.  I can not help but wonder what will happen in the future if we fail to address climate change.  I feel like we are making the only planet that we know can sustain human life into a wasteland.  We are not being respectful to the only home we know.

I have always enjoyed learning about United States History.  This semester I am enrolled in a History course on Tuesday's and Thursday's and I love it.  It makes me wonder if I could possibly be a History major but what would I do with it?  I do not want to be a teacher at all.  As much as I enjoy learning about history, at times it is hard to hear.  Specifically the racism in the South. I know all about the Jim Crow South, the Civil Rights movement, the Klu Klux Klan, the "separate but equal".  Yet every time I hear the story of Emmett Till, I cringe shake my head and am overwhelmed with sadness.  I just have never been able to understand why and how people believe that one race is inferior to another.  The concept of superiority among races stems from arrogance because we are all identical physiologically.  Here I am a "white" girl talking about my deeply rooted belief of equality when other people assume by my looks ...
