February 2nd, 2016.
I have always enjoyed learning about United States History.
This semester I am enrolled in a History course on Tuesday's and Thursday's and I love it.
It makes me wonder if I could possibly be a History major but what would I do with it?
I do not want to be a teacher at all.
As much as I enjoy learning about history, at times it is hard to hear.
Specifically the racism in the South. I know all about the Jim Crow South, the Civil Rights movement, the Klu Klux Klan, the "separate but equal".
Yet every time I hear the story of Emmett Till, I cringe shake my head and am overwhelmed with sadness.
I just have never been able to understand why and how people believe that one race is inferior to another.
The concept of superiority among races stems from arrogance because we are all identical physiologically.
Here I am a "white" girl talking about my deeply rooted belief of equality when other people assume by my looks that I am racist.
All too often when I scroll down my twitter feed I see "White girls this" "Black girls this" "Hispanic girls this" and I can't help but feel disappointed.
Why do we continue to put individuals of a particular hue of skin in these boxes?
We entrap them in these stereotypes, never letting them show if it was even suitable in the first place.
Every race is beautiful and exceptional yet the stereotypes we place upon each other before even learning their name, is destroying our nation.
The idea of "race" was created by humans and this "idea" has been plaguing our societies ever since.
Although I wish that this concept could improve and that we could become tolerant beings, I am not naive.
All I can do is hope that others will start to share my beliefs of equality and not assume about someone because of the color of their skin.
